a community of wine lovers

February 2011

Dear friends

Pebblebed and Vino have been working together in the closest cooperation for the past four years. We are completely separate businesses but we have always shared activities as well as ethos, offering mutual support and sharing our common love of wine. Above all, we both have an underlying belief that wine is more than just a product in a bottle - it represents the land from which if comes and the people who make it; it has the power to transport us to places; and it brings us together around the table, with friends and family. For us, the community of wine is as important as wine itself - the activities and the special moments that we share through the sharing of wine and all the varied activities surrounding wine - the growing of grapes, winemaking, and wine tasting - as well as simply drinking, in abundance and sometimes abandon, always with friends!

2010 was a wonderful vintage year for both Pebblebed as well as for the wines that we import direct from Italy, notably Cascina Fontana in Piedmont, Badia di Morrona in Tuscany and Loretello in Le Marche, amongst others. One of the perennial joys of wine is the anticipation that awaits the release of the new vintages! Geoff's Pebblebed 2010 wines will be available for tasting and purchase by April, while his Pebblebed Brut from the 2009 vintage is soon to be released. Our wines from Italy demand slightly more patience. For example, Mario Fontana's wines from Cascina Fontana definitely improve with bottle age, and so we are in the fortunate position of being able to ask Mario to supply us with his wines when they are approaching their optimum drinking condition (all of Mario's wines have the capacity to continue to improve for many years): this means that we are only now sampling Dolcetto 2009, Barbera 2008, Nebbiolo 2007 and Barolo 2005. We also hold limited stocks of older vintages of all of these wines as without exception they only get better and better with age.
